I've been on DA forever, but I've always kinda jumped from 'section' to section. But I've been keeping an eye on the fandom art of one particular group for a while now. And I had an interesting observation.
It's really easy to tell the real artists from those just being passive about it. And I don't even mean level of skill or talent. Cause (and I've said this for years) if you have enough time on your hands to dedicate to art anyone can become good by utilizing that time.
What I mean is, the people who's art always feels like it's theirs.
And then there are those people who's art always seems to change based on what artists they are a fan of. They have a strong 'voice' as an artist, that is working well for them…buuuuuuut then they notice that someone else is doing something and they begin to emulate that artist and you start to realize that their style isn't a style at all. Just an amalgam of a bunch of other people's ideas that they admire. Which, as a beginning artist, is okay. But when you've been doing this for a while it's kinda…well, just copying.
And irony enough? Those always seem to be the people accusing other people of stealing off them. Drama llaamas sure are predictable, no?
